Regional Groups
As the Sharehood website is a tool that can be used for community building anywhere in the world, we want to get people from all over the world involved in its day-to-day running and worldwide promotion.
So if you think we're onto a good idea and you want to action it in your city, theres no need to fret about programming, designing, planning, writing basic content, getting your feet, building a name and so on, just get involved with us and start a regional group to make the Sharehood yours as much as it is ours. The Sharehood Collective operates by consensus and is totally open to incorporating any suggestions or changes to the existing site that you may have. We plan to be a truly global and democratic organisation.
The kind of activities we see regional groups getting involved in includes:
- organising Sharehood stalls and talks in their area
- printing and distributing Sharehood flyers and posters
- contacting local community organisations to create partnerships
- contacting local media to gain media coverage
- translating the site into their language
- customising the content of the website to be more culturally specific for their country or region
- organising community feedback consultations in their area
- applying for grants to fund the above or whatever else
Additionally of course, we want volunteers from all over the world to help us work on the website itself, both programming and content-wise as well as on the concept and our future planning. You could do this either as an individual (see our volunteering page) or as part of a regional group.
If you decide to start a regional group, we can send you everything we have developed so far that has helped us in Melbourne. We also have an online wiki in which we document our processes, stuff like how we advertise our info nights and ways to get media. As a volunteer or member of a regional group, you can both use this wiki and contribute to it.
We can also set you up your own local area mailing list and put you on our collective mailing list as well. Our Sharehood collective meetings are currently held in Melbourne, but we are open to people skyping in to these meetings and/or organising things more over the mailing list and then having separate Melbourne specific meetings as other regional groups would.
If you're interested in starting a regional group, please get in touch with us and let us know, we'll be very excited about it!
